With the start of the 2018 year I am excited about my continued journey in the field of education. This school year I am working in a different type of self contained classroom. My new classroom only existed one year prior to my management and encompasses intellectual disabilities as well as students on the autism spectrum. The difference in instruction for this setting has been more than enlightening. I took the plunge to step out of the cozy cocoon of the same classroom and experience different to build my adaptability. I will admit, change was a challenge. However, I have already broadened my knowledge in ways I could not have anticipated and jumped the immense hurdle of change after over a decade in the same position. I am grateful at the opportunity to delve into a different self contained classroom, one that further expanded my ability to organize, collaborate and manage resources, such as 4 paraprofessionals that shifted frequently during the first months. As the hiring season for 2018/2019 begins I continue to be resolute with my ambitions for my dream position of Assistant Principal or Support Service Director or even as a resource teacher to step out of the self contained role and have more opportunities to work with a diverse range. I am also even more confident in my ability to excel in such a position as my current opportunity has greatly expanded on my skillset and perspective.
